Fair Housing is than a logo it's a way of life
Fair housing is more than a logo on marketing material, it is a way of life for me. I believe and abide by a code of ethics that says Race, Color, Religion, National Origin, Sex, Familial Status, and Handicap should not influence a real estate transaction. Title VIII of the 1968 Civil Rights Act memorialized this legal concept. I believe in the concept that everyone has to be treated fairly and with respect.
All of this sounds great right, that is until you as me if a neighborhood is safe, or what make up of the area is and I don’t answer your question or side step it. Please understand that sometimes the answer you may get is not the information you want. Believe me I understand, it is probably the same information I would be asking for. I need your understanding though, that you may be required to do some additional research on your own to get these questions answered.
For years real estate professional have neatly cut up towns and cities according to their personal preconceived prejudices. The Civil Rights act of 1968 prohibits this and says that it is not up the real estate professional to decide these things for their clients.
For me to allow the slightest “Steering” leads to a slippery slope, that once entered is hard to stop.
Conversation is good and I welcome it with agents and clients. Let’s talk about what is best for our clients and where we draw the line as real estate professional. Sometime this will be frustrating for my cliens and me, but we live in a better world because of laws like this.
